The Atlantic’s Justin Smith has been promoted to president of Atlantic Media. Previously, Smith served as president of the company’s consumer media division. He will now also oversee the National Journal and Government Executive groups.

Trade publisher Penton Media has folded the print editions of American Machinist and Welding Design & Fabrication. The titles were published under Penton’s manufacturing and supply chain group.

RBI Begins Magazine Closures

Reed Business Information Wednesday said it has ceased publication of three trade titles: Video Business, Manufacturing Business Technology and Industrial Distribution. The Web sites associated with these magazines also will be shut down.

Soon after it announced an agreement to sell eight of its trade media brands, including Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen Business Media said it was ceasing operations for newspaper industry title Editor & Publisher and book industry magazine Kirkus Reviews. Now, it seems that Kirkus Reviews might be poised for a comeback.
