Active Interest Media Acquires Yachting Promotions
Active Interest Media (AIM), publisher of consumer enthusiast magazines including Southwest Art, Vegetarian Times, Better Nutrition, Log Home Design, Log Home Living and Black Belt, has acquired Yachting Promotions Inc. (YPI).
YPI produces and manages five annual boat shows, including the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and other and the Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show. AIM hopes to grow its product base with the deal, by dipping into the marine field. The acquisition is fitting for AIM CEO Skip Zimbalist, formerly CEO of Times Mirror Magazines, where he was responsible for Yachting, Saltwater Sportsman and Motorboating Magazines.
AIM plans to acquire existing boating magazines and/or create new titles under the AIM label. According to Zimbalist, the boat shows are the most important marketing tools in the marine industry, reaching out to exhibitors, who are also probable advertisers; and more than 100,000 attendees, who are both enthusiasts and potential readers. The Fort Lauderdale show alone generates more than $650 million in boat and accessory sales annually.
