Active Interest Media Acquires Assets from Dominion Enterprises
Includes Passagemaker, Soundings, Woodshop News, more.
Active Interest Media (AIM), the consumer enthusiast media company that publishes magazines such as American Cowboy and Backpacker, has acquired several assets from Dominion Enterprises, a marketing services company serving the automotive, marine, enthusiast commercial vehicle, real estate, apartmental, travel and employment sectors.
The deal includes the purchase of Passagemaker and Passagemaker’s Trawlerfest events (which covers boats, boaters and the powerboat lifestyle); Soundings (a recreational boaters magazine); Soundings Trade Only (a website and the magazine that serves the marine industry professional); and Woodshop News’ magazine and website, remain undisclosed.
According to Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, chairman and CEO of AIM, “These acquisitions allow AIM to expand our marine, consumer enthusiast and b-to-b portfolios with highly differentiated print, digital and event properties.”
Staff offices for Passagemaker and Soundings will remain in their current locations of Annapolis, MD and Essex, CT.
These new additions to AIM’s portfolio serve several purposes for AIM. Andy Clurman, president and COO of AIM, says in a statement, “Soundings, Trade Only, Passagemaker and the Trawlerfest events add important dimensions to our existing [properties] in the marine industry. Woodshop News is also a fit with AIM’s Homebuyer Media Group that serves a wide spectrum of custom home builders and craftsmen.”
AIM has made expanding its portfolio a priority over the past years, buying Yellowstone Journal in 2008. The company then acquired four titles in 2009, including Old-House Interiors, Arts & Crafts Homes, Early Homes and the Design Sourcebook.
AIM acquisitions for 2011 include Boatquest.com, an online classified page for boat sellers and buyers.
