Today, Zinio announced that it has acquired mobile publishing app company Audience Media for an undisclosed amount. The deal will enable the digital newsstand to offer simpler print-to-mobile publishing solutions for a wider range of publishers.

The company believes this acquisition will help position it as a dominant player in the digital edition space-which is now an $11 billion dollar industry that grew 34 percent in Q4 2013. More specifically, thanks to Audience Media’s proprietary CMS, Zinio can better leverage cross-platform publishing capabilities that deliver mobile-first solutions to its partners.

"Mobile is the future of digital publishing and this acquisition reinforces our ability to work with more magazine publishers to deliver premium content to an expanded audience of users," Joan Solà, EVP, chief global markets at Zinio says in a release. "Bringing the unique capabilities of Audience Media into our organization gives Zinio the opportunity to deliver the best mobile experiences for consumers seeking individual branded apps or Zinio’s aggregated ‘all in one place’ experience."

Currently, Zinio offers a selection of more than 5,000 digital edition magazines. The acquisition is poised to streamline digital publishing so its library could grow in line with the popularity of digital subscriptions, which is expected to reach a 25 percent share by 2016.
