Summit Professional Networks announced that Stephen Wellman has been named vice president of digital strategy, in a new organization-wide role.
At Summit (formerly Summit Business Media), Wellman will lead strategic initiatives across the company’s suite of digital products, which include online, mobile, social media and information services. Wellman will report directly to Summit CEO Steve Weitzner.
Most recently he was vice president and editor-in-chief at technology brand Slashdot Media, where he supervised an overhaul of various elements of Slashdot and SourceForge. As well as launching original editorial, Wellman’s influence yielded the company’s first mobile site and the debut of online video on brand websites.
Wellman also has held digital roles at Ziff Davis Enterprise and UBM Tech.
“Digital strategy isn’t just about the desktop web anymore. It has to combine online with mobile, data services, education, live events and social media to create a seamless user experience,” Wellman says in a statement. “Summit has an impressive array of dedicated, passionate communities in a variety of markets. We plan to leverage Summit’s assets to build must-use digital experiences for all of our professional communities.”
