Northstar Travel Media has taken a break from its deal-making in Asia to buy a stateside event brand called Mountain Travel Symposium. The annual event caters to the mountain vacation industry, attracting executives from the mountain resort, tour operation and travel supply markets.
The transaction, which actually closed at the end of March, is the third for Northstar in the last couple months.
MTS is produced by Michael J. Pierson, Inc., an event management firm which has managed Northstar’s PhoCusWright Conference. Under terms of the deal, MTS will continue to be managed by Pierson through 2016.
The week-long, 40-year-old event attracts about 1,200 executives and features a unique grouping of "exchanges" that allow attendees to meet directly with representatives in their particular markets.
The Trade Exchange, for example, brings together tour operators with travel suppliers, resort representatives and transportation companies.
MTS will be part of the Travel Events group, its operations team will report to group VP Alicia Evanko.
