Today, Microsoft launched its newest PC and tablet operating system–Windows 8. The latest installment of Windows will feature app-based capabilities, and offer users the ability to purchase and download apps from the Windows Store. To coincide with the launch, Condé Nast, Bonnier and Northern & Shell have rolled out apps for the new operating system.

Condé Nast is delivering 22 branded apps for Windows 8 that will begin launching now and continue through the beginning of 2013. The apps will include free samples of 14 of the company’s digital editions, as well as themed special editions. In a statement, Condé Nast president Bob Sauerberg said, “We are very excited to have another valuable channel to deliver our content to readers. Consumers have high expectations—they want access to our brands wherever and whenever they choose, and it’s our intention to give it to them.”

Bonnier is also aggressively taking advantage of the new digital platform by offering apps for 16 of its top brands, and plans to integrate all of its brands within the next six months. In a recent statement, CEO of Bonnier, Terry Snow said, “[Windows 8] allows us to connect with a new audience, expanding our reach and further building our brands for long-term success.”

Meanwhile, U.K. publisher Northern & Shell has teamed up with PageSuite to develop apps for its two daily newspapers and three magazine titles. N&S’s apps offer readers an interactive experience that “helps bring our print edition to life,” according to the company’s enterprise and operations director, Robert Avery.
