Getty Images Launches Content API

Customers can now integrate the image service directly into publishing tools.

Stock photography provider Getty Images has released an API that integrates the company's core image services directly into a client's production platform.

The API, called Connect, removes the step of going to Getty's website to initiate an image search and acquisition. Instead, clients can have instant access to updated content and search functionality.

Of course, a service like Getty has a huge upside by integrating itself deeper into a content creator's workflow by providing an "always-on" sensibility. "Connect makes it easy for customers and partners to integrate Getty Images' tremendous breadth of content, our rich set of metadata and industry leading search within their platform, products, services, and applications," says Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images, in a statement.

Features include the ability to source content automatically, simplified rights management and a scalable interface. Current Getty customers and partners can use the API at no extra charge, "though users need to consider development resources and the content, of course, must be licensed appropriately," adds a spokesperson.

The company says more than 40 companies are already using Connect, including media companies, advertising agencies and mobile and Web-based applications.
