AMI has taken the next step of fully absorbing Soap Opera Digest by purchasing it from Source Interlink Media. AMI had been essentially running the full operation of the title—from edit to production to advertising and distribution—under a licensing agreement. The deal officially closed last month and terms were not released.

Soap Opera Digest is a weekly with a total circ of about 221,000. AMI had taken over production services of the magazine from Source, along with Soap Opera Weekly, last April in what was supposed to be a four- to five-year agreement.

But that agreement had all the signs of a pending acquisition—Source felt the titles were no longer strategically valuable and AMI saw a fit with their entertainment group.

Soap Opera Weekly and teen celebrity title Pixie, which were also picked up by AMI from Source as part of the licensing deal, did not fare as well. Both brands were shut down last April.
