In Wake of Lagardere Deal, Hearst Promotes Three Execs

James Meigs, Patricia Haegele and Kate Kelly named directors.

Following its acquisition of the majority of Lagardere international titles on Tuesday, Hearst Magazines announced three promotions, including naming James B. Meigs, formerly editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics, editorial director of the men's enthusiast group. Meanwhile, Patricia Haegele, SVP, publisher and chief revenue officer of Good Housekeeping, was promoted to publishing director and Kate Kelly Smith, VP, publisher and chief revenue officer of House Beautiful, has been named SVP and publishing director.

Meigs [pictured], who reports to Hearst Magazines president David Carey, will expand his role by leading the editorial and content department of newly-acquired Car and Driver and Road & Track. 

Haegele and Kelly Smith have been assigned to manage multiple titles within Hearst's newly expanded portfolio and will continue to report to Michael A. Clinton, president, marketing and publishing director of Hearst. Haegele has been publisher of Good Housekeeping since 1997 and, in her new role, will oversee the sales and marketing of the brand (including Good Housekeeping magazine, goodhousekeeping.com, mobile property m.goodhousekeeping.com, and Your Good House), Country Living and Woman's Day.

In addition to her current duties as House Beautiful VP and publisher, Kelly Smith will now manage the publishing aspects of Elle Décor and Veranda.

With its $919 million acquisition of the majority of Lagardere magazines and websites outside the French market, Hearst is now the number two magazine publisher in the world.
