Newsweek Chairman Sidney Harman Dies
Harman merged Newsweek with The Daily Beast last fall.
Newsweek chairman Sydney Harman has died, according to The Daily Beast. He was 93.
The audio entrepreneur bought Newsweek last year (for a $1 purchase plus assumption of $47 million in liabilities) and ended up merging the magazine with The Daily Beast in November, creating a new company called The Newsweek Daily Beast Company.
Harman served as executive chairman, while Daily Beast owner Barry Diller served as director. Tina Brown assumed the role of editor-in-chief for both properties while Stephen Colvin, who served as president of The Daily Beast, became CEO.
