Cygnus Merges Aviation Group Into Diversified Portfolio
Eliminates three executive positions including Senior VP, Cygnus Expositions.
Cygnus Business Media has merged its Aviation group into its Diversified Portfolio group and eliminated the positions held by executive vice president Patrick Nadler and vice president of marketing Charla Sheffield.
"Based on our corporate structure, and the fact that we predicted aviation would be a larger business by now and it continues to be troubled, it didn't make sense to have a separate Aviation group," says a Cygnus spokesperson. "We released two people so the jobs aren't redundant. We are still committed to Aviation, the shows are doing well and the books are still leaders in their market."
Cygnus Diversified Portfolio includes a variety of brands serving several different verticals that don't fit in the company's three core affinity groups: Agriculture, Construction and Public Safety & Security. Some of the Diversified brands include Mass Transit, The CPA Technology Advisor and Food Logistics.
Separately, Cygnus also eliminated the position of senior vice president, Cygnus Expositions, held by Rob Brice. Previously, Brice directed Cygnus Fire and EMS and was named to the VP position as part of Cygnus's restructuring last year. Brice was on his second tour with Cygnus and Nadler was on his third.
In February, Cygnus completed a seven-month reorganization to design a flatter organizational "architecture" that created its then four affinity groups (including Aviation) and eliminated the president position (former president Mike Martin stayed on as head of the publisher's public safety group).
