CRMA, Maggie Award Winners Announced
Emmis titles win big in both awards programs.
Texas Monthly, Portland Monthly and Memphis magazine won the general excellence award in their respective circulation categories (more than 60,000 for Texas Monthly, 30,000 to 60,000 for Portland Monthly and less than 30,000 for Memphis) for the 2011 National City and Regional Magazine Awards, presented by the City & Regional Magazine Association.
Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Texas Monthly took five awards each, the most of any single publications in the CRMA Awards (Emmis Communications publishes both Los Angeles and Texas Monthly). Chicago Magazine won for excellence online and best blog column (Texas Monthly also took best multimedia).
First-time winners included 417 (serving Springfield, Missouri) and B-Metro (serving Birmingham, Alabama). 417 won for its "Asian Food Lovers' Guide" in the leisure lifestyle category while B-Metro won for photography.

Meanwhile, the Western Publishing Association announced its 2011 Maggie Award winners. Emmis' Orange Coast won best overall consumer publication and the city & metropolitan category while Emmy--the magazine for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences--won best overall trade publication.
Bound by Ink--which covers tattoo culture--won best new publication.
