B-to-B Revs Down But Not as Much as Last Year
Print sales fall 6.4 percent, digital jumps 7.5 percent.
Advertising is still challenged across magazine publishing but the rate at which b-to-b publishers are seeing losses appears to be slowing. According to American Business Media, trade print revenues declined 6.4 percent to $1.8 billion during the first quarter of 2010, compared to a 26.1 percent decline during the same period last year. Tradeshow revenues fell 8.4 percent to $2.2 billion this year versus a 19.7 percent slide during the first quarter in 2009.
Month-by-month, print revenue losses are easing, ABM says. Revenues declined 12.4 percent in January, 7.5 percent in February and only 3.1 percent in March.
Meanwhile, digital revenues grew 7.5 percent to $1.1 billion during the first three months of 2010, ABM says.
In April, ABM expanded its Business Information Network reporting to include publisher generated digital and data revenues. The group says information on data sales will be available by mid-year.
