Even in a struggling economy, magazine publishers continue to launch new industry events.

Reed Business Information’s Variety magazine today announced a joint venture with Digital Hollywood to produce the Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit. The event is scheduled for October 19 in Santa Monica California.

As part of the agreement, Variety said it will provide marketing and sales support, industry outreach and content development for the event. The magazine also said it will produce a special editorial feature focusing on its annual list of entertainment’s top innovators.

Variety said it expects the Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit to attract roughly 200 entertainment industry executives. The event will include keynotes, one-on-one interviews, panels, technology demonstrations and table-top displays.

Digital Book Conference

Enthusiast publisher F+W Media said it will produce the “first-ever” Digital Book World Conference, an event addressing the evolving commercial publishing environment, targeting publishers of consumer books and their trading partners.

F+W, which publishes Writer’s Digest and Writer’s Market, said it expects between 400 and 450 people to turn out for the event, which is scheduled for January 26 to 27 in New York City.
