Magazine for modern environmentalists runs out of money.

Another green magazine is done.

Plenty, the cash-strapped consumer magazine about the modern environmental movement, is shutting down.

Despite a last-ditch effort to save its Web site, both the print and online editions of the magazine are being discontinued, the magazine’s publisher, Mark Spellun, said Monday.

Late last week, Plenty laid off a number of staffers and said it would reduce its print frequency, but Spellun told Portfolio the magazine’s financing had simply "dried up."

Last fall, the magazine was in financial talks with entrepreneur Kevin Wall, who partnered with Al Gore to produce Live Earth, but an investment never materialized.

In December, National Geographic shuttered the print edition of its Green Guide—which the National Geographic Society acquired in 2007 and relaunched as a general consumer quarterly—but kept its web site.
