2009 FOLIO: Awards – the Eddies and Ozzies
What are the Eddie and Ozzie Awards?
The largest awards competition in magazine publishing. The Eddies recognize editorial excellence, the Ozzies recognize excellence in magazine design. The only competition for ALL magazines. Powered by FOLIO: magazine, the leading publication for magazine professionals. A prestigious designation bestowed to only the best magazine editorial and creative teams.
Who is eligible?
All magazines are eligible: consumer, b-to-b, association and custom publications; print magazines, digital magazines, magazine/editorial websites.
The competition is organized so that magazines compete within a group of their peers. The Eddies are categorized by topic/market, and the Ozzies are categorized by publication type and circulation size. Please read our magazine classification guidelines (see below) so that you know in which category your publication should compete.
2009 Eligibility Dates: all magazines to be entered in the 2009 Eddies and Ozzies must have been published between June 1, 2008 and June 1, 2009.
What is the entry deadline?
Regular deadline: July 9, 2009, 8:00 p.m. EST.
Extended Deadline: July 27, 2009.
What is the entry fee?
$195 for your first Eddie entry, $165 for each additional Eddie entry.
$195 for your first Ozzie entry, $165 for each additional Ozzie entry.
Online payment method: Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
Please note: a $50 late fee will be automatically added to each entry submitted after the July 9 regular deadline. Extended Deadline is July 27, 2009.
How are entries submitted?
Every entry must be submitted online. Certain categories also require a mail-in component.
Part I - Submit your entry online
Step 1: Create your account (you may enter multiple entries from one account)
Step 2: Submit magazine details (title, publication date, article title) for each entry
Step 3: Upload electronic artwork for each entry
Step 4: Pay entry fee
Step 5: Print Shipping ticket (only required for certain categories only, see below)
Part II- Mail-in your entry
(ONLY required for the following categories: Eddies Single Issues ONLY; Ozzies Best Overall Design, Best Design New Magazine, Best Redesign, Best Media Kit)
Step 1: Print (3) copies of your Shipping Ticket.
Step 2: Attach a Shipping Ticket to 3 identical hard copies of the entered magazine.
Step 3: Mail in these (3) copies of each entry (with Shipping tickets attached) to the Folio: headquarters. Detailed instructions listed on Shipping ticket.
How do I classify my magazine by category?
Please use the following guidelines to classify your magazine type for the Eddie and Ozzie Awards.
- B-to-B - Any magazine that serves a specific and sole industry or business community.
Examples: CFO, FOLIO: magazine, Government Executive - Consumer - Any magazine intended for the general consumers or target demographic within a general consumer audience.
Examples: Newsweek, Men's Health, Seattle Magazine - Association/Non-Profit - Any magazine or publication that serves the audience of a membership organization. B-to-b or consumer.
Examples: IEEE Spectrum, HR Magazine, American Rifleman, AARP The Magazine - Custom - Any magazine or publication contracted by an external client targeting an audience determined by that client intended to serve a marketing function..
Examples: Delta Sky, Lexus, The Ritz-Carlton Magazine - Supplemental Annual or One-Shot - Any single issue complement to an existing publication or standalone publication released once per year.
Examples: Pure Canada, Dialogue, O2:POL Oxygen Design Directory
What are the 2009 Categories? EDDIES Note: Eddies topic/market categories must be selected based on your magazine's target market/topic. If you legitimately serve two applicable markets, you may enter in BOTH. Separate entry fees will apply. In 2009, Eddie Awards will be granted in the following areas:
Non-market-specific categories: OZZIES See above descriptions for consumer, b-to-b, association/non-profit and custom categories.
