Magazines love lists, don’t they?
Well, we've got the motherlode: the mysterious list of magazines Wal-Mart decided to remove from its shelves.
Wal-Mart has thus far refused to release anything official; however, the list surfaced last week on the New York Post’s Web site—buried in a link at the bottom of one of Keith Kelly’s columns—but was quickly taken down.
We’ve reprinted it, in full, here.

Well at least Southern Breeze is in Good Company

My curiosity soon turned to despair when I saw that my own Southern Breeze was yanked from Wal-Mart. But, as my assistant editor reminded me, at least we're in good company with Spin, Memphis, Archie, Maxim, Atlantic Monthly, Guideposts and 992 more!

Walmart Magazine pull
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 02/07/2008 - 17:16.Why! Why! Why! I live in a small SD town and when I went to Walmart to pick up my favorite magazines and low and behold--not there. The shelves were basically bare. Let's hope that this is a temporary thing.

but here's something to chew on...
The last time I had my mag (Concrete Wave) in Walmart was the fall of 2006.
Now, my math skills aren't that great and my memory is fading, but we got booted around September 2006...That's almost 18 months ago.
So, keep that in mind when you read this list...a suspect a number of mags were removed quite some time ago.
For the record, I was not surprised we got booted...we are a bit too niche.
However, it's nice to know I am with much bigger mags.
I can see a whole new business model in the fashion arena:
"I put my magazine on the rack in Walmart, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

From the initial reports, we knew there are a lot of magazines on this list that were booted (like yours) awhile ago -- and more than a few (House and Garden, Shop Etc., etc.) that no longer exist. Again, Wal-Mart's p.r. has refused to say anything about this, or even acknowledge the cuts publicly. Click on the related link above ("Why Wal-Mart Cut 1,000 Magazines") and see, however vague, its reasons.
