Time to Close Canadian Edition

Readers to receive U.S. edition instead.

In a continued effort to cut costs following its major restructuring announcement in October, Time Inc. has decided to close the Canadian edition of Time magazine. The December 29 issue will be its last.

As a result, Time Inc. will close its Toronto sales office.  Seven people were laid off.

In an e-mail to FOLIO:, a Time Inc. spokesperson attributed the closing to “the challenging economic climate.” “Moving forward, readers and advertisers in Canada will be served by Time’s U.S. edition,” the spokesperson wrote.

In October, Time Inc. announced a major restructuring it said could result in roughly 600 layoffs. The U.S. edition of Time saw ad pages fall 19.2 percent through the first nine months, according to Publishers Information Bureau figures.

CANADA'S MACLEAN'S HOLDS IT'S TERRITORY

With this folding, I am guessing Roger's Maclean's has a huge victory party in the works. First Maclean's claimed Time copied them with their redesign and now they can claim that they killed Time, Literally. Time Inc would never admit this though.

Time's Disrespect for Canadian Subscribers

It is hard to believe that in this day of Technology that a large corporation such as Time had not the decency to inform its Canadian subscribers of the closure of its Canadian office and its plans to serve its Canadian subscribers. It has been two months since I sent an e-mail to Time inquiring what happened to my issues and I have yet to receive a reponse! Having paid for a three year subscription, I am not pleased. I am sure there are many more in the same "Boat" as I.

It is been two months Time Magazine stop delivery and every time I phone or email them , the reply was they are still not decided what to do with the Canadian subscribers. It was unimaginable to see a magazine like TIME can do such fraudulent practice. We still have two years subscription to them. I will never recommend to anyone for subscribing TIME .

I just received a post card from Time Canada saying that the balance of my subscription will be replaced by Maclean's in 6-8 weeks. Or I can call for a refund of the remaining issues of Time. Late, but at least an answer.
TIME magazine (canadian edition) NOT newsworthy?

I also paid for next 3 years of TIME (canadian edition) and heard nothing from them since last December. Can anybody at the head office provide an explanation? I usually do not like to pay for something and get nothing in return. Wake up TIME!!!
Refund from subscription!

I received a check from Time today. I was wondering why I wasn't receiving anymore issues! I'm pleased about the refund but surprised that they weren't able to inform me sooner what was going on. Oh well, I guess vanashing print media is a sign of the times.

MacLean's is fine if all I'm after is Canadian news. But it doesn't have comprehensive articles on world issues. Anyone know if MacLean's will be covering the remainder of our Time Canada subscription or if it's just covering the equivalent of what we paid Time Canada?

I cannot beleive the blatant indecency of Time Inc. How can such a large company as this simply cancel an edition of their magazine and not notify their paying customers. Do they consider us Canadians as simply pushovers? You cancel our edition, not notify us and have made no attempt to rectify the situation. Are we to just sit back with complacency. I think not. Please refund me my money immediately or start delivering the American edition including those editions that have already been delivered to our American counterparts.

I was wondering why I have been receiving Macleans Magazines. I thought it was a free offer to get me hooked on Macleans. I decided to do some investigating. I also started wondering whatever happened to my Time Canadian edition subsription. After a bit of Googling and getting only very few informative hits, I have come to the conclusion that Time Canada editions just folded quietly at the end of December 2008 and just as quietly got replaced by Macleans Magazine subscription which purported to be or seemed like a trial offer. What the went on here? Did anybody really noticed? Did Macleans offered to pick up the subscribers for free or what? Was there any notice that said exactly what was happening?
