Regional Green Magazine Sold to Founder
Sustainable Industries covers green building and clean energy.
Monthly green business magazine Sustainable Industries has been sold to its publisher and co-founder, Brian Back
Under his newly-formed company—Sustainable Media, Inc.—Back purchased the regional b-to-b magazine from Portland, Oregon-based green media company Celilo Group Media, which publishes clean energy news magazine nwcurrent.com and the EcoMetro healthy lifestyle coupon books. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’ve spent five years building a respected, independent magazine that is highly trusted by its core readers,” Back wrote in an e-mail to FOLIO:. “I believe in the talent and dedication of our team and we have a clear vision to make some strategic investments, expand our offerings and create new revenue.”
Sustainable Industries was launched in February 2003 as a monthly business newsletter. Today, with a circulation of 13,000, the magazine covers green building, clean energy and technology, and green marketing. The acquisition also includes the magazine’s accompanying Web site and Sustainable Industries Economic Forum events.
In 2007, Sustainable Industries won FOLIO:’s gold Eddie award for best single article in the B-to-B: Energy/Utilities/Engineering category.
