Quad/Graphics to Eliminate 100 Jobs
Spokesperson: Downturned economy ‘continuing longer than anyone anticipated.'
Due to a slowdown in revenue, privately-held commercial printer Quad/Graphics has decided to cut 100 jobs from its plants nationwide.
Worldwide, Quad/Graphics employs about 12,000 people. Many of the job cuts will come from the company’s facilities in Wisconsin, and will come mostly from administration, the company says. No production positions have been eliminated.
“The downturn in the economy appears to be continuing longer than anyone previously anticipated and so we’re being proactive in how we address what’s happening,” a spokesperson wrote in an e-mail to FOLIO:. “The reductions were tough, but necessary given the volume fluctuations, and we opted to do them all in one day to minimize disruption to employees and this business.”
In June, Quad/Graphics announced a plan to invest $25 million to expand its direct mail services. The investment was to include the purchase of equipment like digital and variable cutoff offset presses, high-speed envelope inserters and commingling machinery. It also was to help fund upgrades to its 300,000 square foot facility in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
Quad/Graphics says no further job cuts are expected. The company will, however, “continue to monitor the economy and its impact on our business.”
