NewPage Integrates Coated Web Paper Products
Changes made to No. 2 through No. 4 lines following Stora Enso acquisition.
In an effort to consolidate its products after acquiring Stora Enso North America, the NewPage Corporation is integrating and streamlining its coated No. 2 through No. 4 web paper lines. The lines are used for a number of commercial products including magazines, catalogues, direct mail and inserts.
According to David Deger, vice president of marketing, the combination of NewPage and SENA product lines “created redundancies within some grade categories which, if unaddressed, may cause confusion for our customers. We believe our customers will benefit from a solid, simplified and streamlined product offering, and this is out first step towards achieving that goal.â€
The product changes are as follows:
â–ª For No. 2 coated freesheet web products, NewPage will continue its Sterling Ultra Web and Productolith web in gloss, dull and matte finishes.
▪ The Orion brand will serve as the company’s No. 3 coated freesheet web offering (gloss, satin and matte finishes) and the Vision brand will continue to be offered as a more “economical†alternative (gloss and velvet finishes). Focus Plus will be discontinued.
â–ª For No. 4 coated groundwood web products, NewPage is adding lightweight and retrogravure capabilities to its Escanaba and Dependoweb products, and is discontinuing the NovaPress Advantage, PolarisPress and CapriPress brands.
NewPage also will continue to offer its Arbor-branded triple chain-of-custody certified products. Discontinued products will continue to ship through April 30.
Stora Enso sold its U.S. holdings to New Page for about $1.7 billion. The deal closed earlier this year.
NewPage is expected to make a similar announcement about its coated No. 5 and uncoated web paper lines sometime this week.
