BusinessWeek has launched the first in a series of free online video courses, including nine lessons from high-profile financial journalist Gene Marcial on how to invest in the stock market.

Marcial, who currently writes a weekly BusinessWeek column called “Inside Wall Street,” will also pen a stock picking column for BusinessWeek.com starting on May 11, to be updated three times a week.

BusinessWeek.com is using publishing platform MovableType to support the initiative with Feedroom as its video server, editor-in-chief John Byrne wrote in an email to FOLIO:. The title is published by McGraw-Hill, which has an extensive portfolio in the education market.

BusinessWeek’s next course will focus on managing and will feature a well-known executive. BusinessWeek would not disclose the name of the executive nor the anticipated date for the upcoming course.

Business education needs to turn from accepted but archaic practices. The reality of powerful social interactions needs to be stressed above confusing and often meaningless mathematical models. I'm looking forward to see how you develop your offerings. Happy Hunting
