Corry Publishing Changes Name

Tech trade publisher now called Jameson Publishing; expands facilities.

Western Pennsylvania-based technology trade magazine publisher Corry Publishing has changed its name to Jameson Publishing.

The name change, the publisher says, was made to avoid confusion that the company is located in Corry, Pennsylvania, where it was founded nearly three decades ago. Corry relocated about 45 minutes west to the town of Erie in the mid-1980s.

The name Jameson Publishing is in honor of James Peterson, the son of company founders Rick and Terry Peterson.

“We’ve grown to nearly 80 employees today and believe we can attract more applicants and grow even faster with a new name,” president Jim Roddy said.

Due to the expansion, Corry Publishing is moving from its 15,000 square-foot headquarters to a nearly 23,000 square foot facility, which also is located in Erie.

Corry Publishing’s portfolio includes Business Solutions, Integrated Solutions, Integrated Solutions for Retailers and techPARTNER magazines. Early next year, it plans to launch pharmaceutical and bioresearch tech title Life Science Leader.

These guys are currently in a law suit over allegedly not properly paying several employees for over time pay. http://www.getmanlaw.com/cases/get-attachment.html/Memorandum+in+Support...

I called my brother-in-law about this because he used to work there and he said he heard it was a couple disgruntled ex-employees who think they found some loophole in the overtime law. I applied there a few years ago because they pay more than most places around Erie, but it didn't work out for me
Hmmmm, indeed

If you read the legal document, it hardly seems like a "loophole." Their own employee handbook states several things that are simply illegal. Not a "loophole." And with all their endless claim that they only hire "high character" people, you'd think they'd make sure to be "high character" themselves and not skimp on over time payment. According to the legal document, they refused to include travel time as over time, they paid 80% of salary for OT, instead of the federally mandated 150%, as required by law in the Fair Labor act and were instructed, per Policy & Procedure manual, to sign in always rounding DOWN, ripping the employee off of those minutes. None of that are loopholes. I guess the outcome of the legal case will tell us if they were operating outside of the law. I do find it interesting that with their claims of being so very wonderful and popular that they had to open an office outside of Erie to hire more people. Are there no good employees left in Erie any more?

These guys are perceived as holier than thou in most circles. They have interviewed virtually every person known to mankind and put them through a myriad of tests, interviews, non-stop, 10-tier processes. They have a couple of reps making six figures and it seems like they think that makes any of their righteous attitude and policies beyond reproach. Look at their web site. www.corrypub.com. Look at all the rhetoric about how their employees are "world class." World class? Based on what? Have the been around the world and outperformed all others in their field? Do they even know what "world class" even means? Do their salespeople and editors perform at a level that is the highest in the entire world? Ridiculous. Talk about baseless claims.
Yea

Yea. They preach "high character" all day long, but if it ends up being true that they illegally underpaid their people for legit over time, how "high character" is that? And, I find it bizarre that they choose a new name (Jameson)that is most known for Jenna Jameson, the most famous porn star, by far, in the last decade. The 2nd most-associated name with Jameson is booze (whiskey). Whoever came up with the idea to go with Jameson - when it's not anyone who owns it real name - must be pretty out of touch. Seriously. That's the best name they could come up with?

So now what was called Peterson Bros. Publishing and then Corry Publishing is now called Jameson Publishing. Why wouldn't they go back to calling themselves by their old name, and their REAL name, which is Peterson. Why make a fictional name that none of the owners actually have. I read That they want with Jameson Publishing because their Dad's first name was James and the real end of their last name is "son" as in "Peterson." Are you kidding me? THAT'S how they came up with their new name? As someone else noted the name "Jameson" is MOST recognized for Jenna Jameson, the most famous porn star in the last decade. And, 2nd most recognized name for Jameson is for whiskey. And that's the name these guys came up with? Did they decide on it by throwing darts at a board blindfolded? Who can be this out of touch? Why change the name at all? It can't be because they are going to lose that court case for ripping off employees off of legit over time pay - allegedly? Why wouldn't Jameson publishing choose a name that reflected the niche that they were in, so they name actually stood for something that made sense to the business they are in. Jameson Publishing? Jameson Publishing? Jameson Publishing? The owners name is Peterson, Rick and Terry Peterson. But now the company name is Jameson.....OK. And they are not in the porn or booze niches....but they chose the name "Jameson.....???????" Wow. The lights are on, but is there anyone home?
Does anyone know?

I read they just settled in a law suit, where it was alleged that Corry Publishing withheld paying their employees the proper amount for over time, required by law. The Fair Labor Act specifies that if any employee is not in management (i.e. has employees under them) then if said employee works over 40 hours they are to be paid time and one-half pay. It doesn't matter if you are wearing a white color, a tie, or tap shoes - if you are not in management and working over 40 hours you need to be compensated for those OT hours, being paid time in a half; Corry Publishing (now, Jameson Publishing - no not related to Jenna Jameson or the whiskey) only paid it's non-manager employees 80% of their wages, almost a full one half of what law required - allegedly. This is what the article stated. http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080818/NEWS02/8081803... "The plaintiffs had filed a motion to certify the case as a collective action. They wanted the court to order the defendants to hand over the companies' 200-plus employees' addresses so that they could be notified of the lawsuit. The case was settled before that motion could be ruled on, however." I wonder what would have happened had the motion to mail the additional 200 employees been contacted? Sounds like they settled just in the nick of time - allegedly. Also, there was this article about their amazing growth, new huge office and how awesome they are, but then someone wrote that they just laid people off. Is that true?
