The list of BPA members that report digital editions increased slightly at the end of 2007. In the December 2007 cycle, 224 publications reported digital copies, up 4.5 percent from 214 a year earlier.

Oracle, a magazine from the company of the same name targeting the enterprise technology market, topped the list again with 122,827 digital subscribers, an 18.2 percent increase over the June cycle. Oracle’s number of digital subscribers is almost double that of the next highest member, eWeek, with 65,000 digital-only subscribers.

The make-up of the top twenty publishers that report digital editions hasn’t changed much. The list almost entirely consists of tech, electronics and engineering-related titles. Foreign Policy is the loner of the bunch, reporting 19,946 digital subscribers—18.2 percent of its total qualified circulation.

Renewable Energy Focus reported the highest number of digital users as a percentage of total qualified circ—64.3 percent of its 28,000 circulation use digital.

Audited circulation understates the growth of digital editions
Submitted by Cimarron Buser (Texterity) on Mon, 05/19/2008 - 08:17.

One of the areas of strong growth in digital editions has been the Association market (professional association magazines). However, the vast majority of these publications are using digital as a "member benefit" in addition to print delivery. Another growing use of digital editions is as a "companion delivery" copy. And, although BPA Worldwide provides a category for this, most publishers choose to keep the "print" copy only on the audit statement. Bottom line - we're seeing an over 100% growth rate year over year in subscribers for digital, but it's not all making it to the audit line - yet.
