Newsweek has launched a new group blog on politics for Newsweek.com, in partnership with the Media Bloggers Association (MBA). The blog, called "The Ruckus," is geared to play a key role in Newsweek’s 2008 campaign coverage, according to Newsweek.com editor Deidre Depke.
"We want to expose Newsweek readers to all the exciting discourse and discussion that is taking place on political blogs today," said Depke in a statement. "We think ‘The Ruckus’ will introduce readers to a new array of voices and will encourage enlightened political discourse as the ’08 race steps into high gear."
MBA refers to "blogging" as "citizen journalism" and touts itself as supporting the development of it as a distinct form of media.
Some of these initial MBA-member voices on "The Ruckus" include James Joyner, of outsidethebeltway.com; Chris Woods, of bleedingheartland.com; and Dean Barker, of bluehampshire.com; and others. The group is intended to represent various political views, backgrounds, and parts of the country.
