Petra amcBOCA RATON, FLORIDAWired, Time and The New Yorker were among the winners at the American Society of Magazine Editors second annual cover contest, announced Tuesday by Glamour editor and ASME chair Cindi Leive at the 2007 American Magazine Conference here.

The awards were presented by Sports Illustrated supermodel and tsunami survivor Petra Nemcova—dressed in a silver sequin miniskirt, tripping over the teleprompter lines and awkwardly ad-libbing—during a lunchtime ceremony.

The New Yorker won cover of the year for its September 11, 2006 cover. The magazine also took home best news cover.

Wired won best celebrity cover for its “How-To” issue depicting Stephen Colbert sawing an iPod in half. Harper’s Bazaar won best fashion cover for its high-rise model shoot.

“Covers are the most important thing you do as an editor,” Leive said before introducing Nemcova. "Get ready to feel underdressed."

Time magazine won best concept cover for its depiction of the Republican party after its loss in the 2006 congressional election.

The best cover line went to Texas Monthly for its “If You Don’t Buy This Magazine, Dick Cheney Will Shoot You in the Face” cover line.
