Hanley Wood started off the year with one acquisition, while 1105 Media made two, the companies said in separate statements Tuesday.

Hanley Wood has purchased Ascend Media's Pro AV magazine and Web site, which focus on audio and video products and applications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The assets will be merged into Hanley Wood's Design Group under group publisher Michael Boyle.

Meanwhile, 1105 acquired the assets of Fawcette Technical Publications (FTP), publisher of Visual Studio Magazine and producer of numerous international conferences, including VS Live!, Web Design World and Web Builder 2.0. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

1105 also purchased the CPM Group, producer of contingency planning and management conferences and information products serving the fields of business continuity, emergency management and security. CPM will become part of 1105's Security Products division, headed by group publisher Russell Lindsay. The seller is West Coast WirelessLines, a portfolio company of MCG Capital Corporation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hanley Wood's latest acquisition, Pro AV is published 12 times a year, is BPA-audited and is read by 20,000 professional audio-video integrators, contractors, consultants, resellers and end users. Pro AV's editor, Mark Mayfield will join Hanley Wood and continue editorial direction of the magazine. Stan Kashine and Sue Horwitz will join Hanley Wood as regional sales managers.

FTP will become part of 1105 Media's Redmond Media Group, bringing its reach to more than 500,000 readers and attendees each year, through magazines, online information, and live events. RMG is led by Group Publisher Henry Allain.
