Jumpstart Automotive Media will handle online sales for publisher's automotive Web sites.

Hachette Filipacchi Media today announced it reached an agreement to purchase San Francisco-based Jumpstart Automotive Media, a vertical advertising network for the automotive industry. Jumpstart, which will retain its own brand, will take over ad sales for CarandDriver.com, RoadTrack.com and CycleWorld.com. The sites will be integrated into Jumpstart's network, which will bring the total number of unique visitors to 5 million per month (according to ComScore March 2007).

Previously, a separate, non-print sales staff had handled ad sales for those three sites. Going forward, Hachette's print staff, including executive vice president and group publishing director Nick Matarazzo, will coordinate with Jumpstart on selling integrated packages. "Almost all our advertising today is packaged," Hachette CEO Jack Kliger told Folio:. "Our print publishing operations, including our publishers and hopefully our editors, will work closely with the Web operations and Jumpstart."

Previously, Hachette vice president of digital media Marta Wohrle had told Folio: she thinks that within the next few years Hachette could see 20 percent of its income come from a combination of online and mobile media.
