Nxtbook Sees Sales, Traffic Increases in 2006
Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based digital publisher NXTbook Media reported a 254 percent increase in sales and 359 percent more traffic to its digital magazines in 2006. Additionally, the number of pages viewed per NXTbook increased nearly 10 percent.
NXTbook CEO Michael Biggerstaff said in a statement that the amount of video streamed from the company’s digital magazine editions increased to hundreds of gigabytes per month. "We’re streaming the amount of video each week that we saw in the entire year of 2005," he said.
Zinio Launches Digital Edition of TV Guide
TV Guide is going digital. The television magazine, which transformed from a digest-size TV listings title to a glossy television celebrity publication in 2005, is being launched into a digital format by Zinio Systems Inc. The virtual magazine will feature the same coverage television news, celebrity interviews and other content found in the print magazine. The magazine is available at Zinio’s Web site.
Plastic Logic to Manufacture Portable Reading Devices
United Kingdom-based Plastic Logic plans to spend $100 million on construction of a factory that will produce organic electronics-based active matrix display modules for use in portable e-readers.
The "take anywhere, read anywhere" display will be thin and light enabling a reading experience closer to paper than other display technology, such as laptops, phones and other PDAs, Plastic Logic said in a statement. The plant will be based in Dresden, Germany and will have an initial production capacity for one million display modules per year. The company forecasts that its production capacity will grow to 41.6 million in 2010.
Acclivity Releases New Blog Optimization Package
Acclivity Inc., a Los Angeles-based Web design and search engine optimization company, has released the first blog-only, search engine optimization package. As part of the package, Acclivity will install plug-ins, modify the blog’s code to target better keywords, set up accounts on various Web-based service sites, and make automatic and manual submissions to search engines and directories.
Acclivity offers blog installation services those who do not yet have a blog. It also offers a monthly blog optimization service and blog writing services for those who don’t the time to keep their blog updated, but want to take advantage of its potential traffic-driving power.
GMG Sees Sales Increase in 2006
GMG, supplier of high-end color management and proofing solutions, says its annual sales rose last year due to further expansion and distribution activity. The company reported its second consecutive years of sales increases, with 2006 sales rising 40 percent over 2005. Sales had risen 50 percent in 2005, compared to 2004 sales.
The company, which is headquartered in Tübingen, Germany and has offices worldwide, including in the U.S., said it experienced the most growth in Japan, Australia, U.K. and Benelux, and completed successful expansions in the U.S., Europe and Asia in 2006.
NetWorld Alliance to Launch Digital Sign Portal
B-to-b publisher, NetWorld Alliance will launch a Web portal and semi-weekly, e-mail news alert dedicated to the digital sign market on March 1. DigitalSignageToday.com will provide news coverage, case studies, white papers and other content.
James Bickers, the editor of SelfServiceWorld.com and KioskMarketplace.com, will begin editing the site full time in February. He is already posting content on a beta version of the site.
Cadmus Expands Services to ASBMB
Cadmus Communications Corp. has expanded its print production services provided to the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to include ASBMB Today, the Society’s monthly, 32- page full-color magazine for its members. Cadmus will provide copyediting, composition and printing services for the publication from its Columbia and Easton, Maryland facilities.
The journal production services that Cadmus currently provides for The Journal of Biological Chemistry and Molecular and Cellular Proteomics will be supplemented by XML conversion services for JBC under a separate contract.
Quad/Graphics Named One of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies
Printer, Quad/Graphics has been named to Fortune magazine’s annual list of 100 "Best Companies to Work For." The Hollywood Reporter Launches Net Effect’
The Hollywood Reporter has launched a new print and online feature called "Net Effect," which will help media and entertainment professionals track buzz, usage and traffic trends on the Internet. "Net Effect" will feature data from Nielsen BuzzMetrics, Neilsen/NetRatings and Neilsen Mobile units. The Hollywood Reporter and Neilsen media businesses are owned by VNU.
"Net Effect" also features charts detailing the most-visited Web sites of the week including top brands, and parent companies as well as top broadcast media destinations. It will run on Mondays in the magazine’s print edition and 24/7 on www.hollywoodreporter.com. The data will be accompanied by analysis.
