Atlantic Monthly Owner Bradley's Investment in New Mag May Not Be His Last
By Marrecca Fiore 09/07/2006
Harvard alum and Atlantic Monthly owner David Bradley's first investment into a magazine that wasn't borne of his Atlantic Media family may not be his last, says Meredith Kopit, publisher of 02138, a general interest magazine directed at Harvard alumni. The title was founded by Bom Kim, a fellow Harvard graduate, who will publish the magazine with the help of an investment from Bradley.
"Since David is a Harvard business graduate he has that shared sense of DNA," said Kopit. Publicity shy, Bradley declined a request for an interview. "He also aspires to create a family of publications serving the leadership class over time, who share a desire for impact, share an interest in interacting with the world in a certain way."
The content of 02138, which takes its name from Harvard's zip code, will focus on people;namely, the 320,000-plus people who can list Harvard on their resumes. But it will also cover world news, business, travel, design, food, fashion, gossip and entertainment. The first two issues of 02138 will be mailed to 50,000 alumni. In addition to this distribution, 02138 will be made available at select Harvard reunions and events. The magazine will be perfect bound and approximately 120 pages.
Despite its Cambridge, Massachusetts, roots, 02138 plans to celebrate its launch later this month with an invite-only party in New York. In October, the celebration will continue with launch parties in Boston and D.C.
